    Welcome to Second Grade...

where we live by the Eagle Code

"Be respectful! Be responsible, and be safe!"

    Character Counts!

I'm a kid of good character, trustworthy and true.

I'm respectful and fair, responsible too.

I am a good citizen. I know what to do.

I care about me, and I care about you.

The choices I make shape the person I'll be.

'cause character counts, and I'm counting on me!

    Reader's and Writer's Workshop

"Studying the Elements of Nonfiction"  This month we are switching gears in Reading.  Within this unit, readers study texts to increase their knowledge.  They will utilize context clues to discover meanings of unknown words, and they will provide a summary of information gathered from multiple sources.  As they have spent time researching and collecting information on some truly amazing animals, we now will take a deeper look into what we can learn, while reading nonfiction text.

Our writing workshop will continue as the students write informational pieces on topics for which they are experts.  The will also reflect on Spring as they write a poem describing the use of their senses.
