Welcome to Mr. G's Music Site

Music News

Everyone is welcome to visit the Music Room (G-2)-you'll be hearing (and seeing) some of the following:

Our first graders are using symbols to represent musical sounds and ideas and using simple terms (up; down; loud; fast and slow) to describe the elements of music. (Music Standard & Benchmarks 1.1.1 and  2.1.1)  We are also studying the Fall/Winter seasons/holidays and are learning songs about Veteran's Day; Thanksgiving; Chanukah & Kwanzaa.

Our second graders are putting into practice Music Standard & Benchmark 1.2.1-knowing simple music notation (e.g. rhythm & pitch) by practicing for our grade level performance/program "The Share Bears" which will be presented on Friday, December 20th, 2019 at 11:30 am in the MUR.  December 20th is a minimum day.

Our third graders are focusing on Music Standard & Benchmarks 1.3.1-knowing the standard symbols to notate meter; rhythm; pitch; melody and dynamics  and 1.3.2-reading and writing simple music notation by working collaboratively in groups and creating 2/4; 3/4/; 4/4 & 5/4 measures using whole; half; quarter; eighth notes and their corresponding rests. Their program/performance "50 Stars for Old Glory" will be taking place on Friday, April 3rd, 2020 @ 11:30 a.m. in the MUR.  The 3rd is a Minimum Day due to the fact that the evening prior is our Open House.

Our fourth graders are working on Music Standard & Benchmark 2.4.1-knowing the elements of music (rhythm; melody & harmony) and Music Standard & Benchmark 3.4.1-sing a melody w/accuracy by practicing for their grade level program/ performance "Days of the '49" which will be taking place on Friday, January 31st, 2020 @ 8:30 am in the MUR.

Our fifth graders are concentrating on Music Standard & Benchmark 1.5.1-reading whole; half; dotted half; quarter; eighth and sixteenth notes and rests in 2/4; 3/4; & 4/4 meter signatures by practicing their program/performance music for their program entitled "Fifty Nifty United States"  which will be performed on Friday, February 28th, 2020 at 8:30 am in the MUR.   In addition, the two "Raps" of the States & Presidents performed will be accompanied by our students on our Orff  instruments (glockenspiels; metallophones & xylophones).

All students in the music program at Morello Park are engaged in activities based on Kodaly and Orff methodologies that encourage in-tune singing and rhythmic precision and are aligned w/ Common Core Practices.

Thank You
