One School One Book

March 2nd through March 31st 2017

Dear Morello Park Families,

In cooperation with our PTA, and Morello Park Elementary Staff, we are thrilled to announce the kick-off to our “One School, One Book” Reading Campaign 2017!

This is our third year of launching this program as a way to continue our school’s vision in helping students to build rich literacy skills at home, as well as school. Every family is encouraged to read the same book, at the same time. This campaign engages families in the joy of reading quality literature with each other, and completing fun, challenging, and enriching activities for one calendar month.

This year we have selected a fun, playful, enjoyable story called: School Days According to Humphrey, by Betty Birney.

Thanks to our PTA, every student will be provided with a copy of the book! Many fun activities are planned throughout the month of March, including a family project (see attached for more details), classroom activities, an evening book reading at school, Humphrey snack days on Fridays, certificates, and prizes awarded for completing chapters on time. Those who complete the book will have their names entered into a drawing for a chance to win a toy hamster and a gift card!

Important dates to remember for One School, One Book in the month of March are:

  • March 2nd...books come home with students (every student gets a copy)

  • Beginning March 10th, and every Friday in March, turn in your attached chapter completion certificates

  • Every Friday in March, a prize winner will be drawn from the certificates turned in (one per grade level and announced that afternoon)

  • March 9th:  6:30-7:30 book reading with Mr. Jared and Mr. Gardner (with snacks)

  • March 13th:  Family projects due (see attached for details)

  • March 29:   Last Day to finish the book/ Turn in “I read the whole book” certificate to enter the Grand Prize drawing on Thursday, March 30th

Any questions???   Please contact Mrs. Anders or Mrs. Halstead

Happy-Happy-Happy Reading!
